ICE Launches Operation Against Criminal Immigrants in Maine

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has initiated a new operation aimed at apprehending the most dangerous undocumented immigrants, according to federal authorities. This time, the focus is on Maine.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced on Tuesday that ICE agents began “Operation Prey Today” to locate individuals accused of causing significant harm to local communities. The details were released in a press announcement.

ICE Assistant Deputy Director Patricia Hyde mentioned that about 50 immigrants were detained on the operation’s first day.

Hyde noted that there are roughly 1,400 targets in Maine. Some of these individuals are facing serious charges, including child rape, drug trafficking, and assault. Reportedly, they hail from countries like Senegal, Somalia, Honduras, Guatemala, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

According to reports, a video segment from a recent broadcast showed ICE agents arresting two Ecuadorian individuals, as well as a repeat offender from Sudan, with accusations of drunk driving among them.

Other detained individuals included Anbessa Berhe, an Ethiopian national with convictions for aggravated assault and drug possession. DHS also mentioned Elmara Coreria, who has previously faced charges related to child endangerment, and Danny Lopez-Cortez, a Guatemalan immigrant with a history of operating a vehicle under the influence.

There was also Dominic Ali, a Sudanese man with convictions for various serious crimes including aggravated assault and false imprisonment.

DHS has yet to clarify whether Ali is the same individual featured in the Fox News coverage.

On Wednesday, Portland Mayor Mark Dion referred to the operation as a “war on terror.” He urged residents to avoid interfering with ICE’s efforts, highlighting the risks associated with obstructing law enforcement.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin recently criticized state police for adopting sanctuary city policies that have resulted in increased ICE activities in other Democratic-led states.

In a statement, McLaughlin expressed discontent with Maine’s leadership, saying, “They seem to prefer protecting criminal illegal aliens over law-abiding citizens.” She assured that under the current administration, actions would be taken to prevent criminal immigrants from endangering American communities.

The office of Maine Governor Janet Mills did not provide any comments regarding the situation.
