U.S. Pursues Regime Change in Cuba

Reports indicate that the Trump administration is actively working towards regime change in Cuba, aiming to end the country’s communist rule by the year’s end.

To support a political shift, officials are looking for insiders within the Cuban government who could assist in removing the current leadership from power. A report from The Wall Street Journal highlighted this on Wednesday.

Though a “concrete plan” hasn’t been outlined yet to dismantle the nearly 70-year-old communist government, it appears their control is faltering.

According to a U.S. official, Cuba’s economy is nearing collapse, particularly after the fall of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

The island is grappling with ongoing shortages of basic goods and healthcare supplies, and is frequently experiencing power outages, as noted by U.S. intelligence assessments.

Cuba relies heavily on imported oil from Venezuela and could run out of fuel in a matter of weeks.

The Trump administration intends to prevent additional Venezuelan oil from reaching Cuba, further destabilizing the Cuban regime.

U.S. officials view the military operation that led to Maduro’s capture—along with the concessions gained from his government—as a model for similar actions in Cuba.

The administration is currently engaging with Cuban exiles and local groups in Miami and Washington to identify potential allies within Cuba, as reported by the Journal.

Furthermore, the administration might increase pressure on Cuban leaders, including Miguel Díaz-Canel, Fidel Castro’s brother, as negotiations continue.

Earlier this year, Trump made it clear to Cuba that “it’s time to make a deal.” He expressed concerns over the flow of resources, stating, “There is no more oil or money going to Cuba!”

He added a cautionary note in a January post, suggesting a need for an agreement before it becomes too late.

The White House has yet to respond to requests for comments regarding these developments.
