BitGo Raises $212.8 Million in IPO Amid Crypto Industry Challenges

On January 21, BitGo Holdings, a cryptocurrency custody startup based in Palo Alto, California, announced the pricing of its initial public offering (IPO) in the United States, which exceeded projections. The IPO, which generated $212.8 million, marks the company’s inaugural foray into the stock market, anticipated in 2026.

BitGo issued 11.8 million shares priced at $18 each, surpassing the expected market range of $15 to $17 per share. Following this offering, BitGo’s valuation stands at approximately $2.08 billion.

This IPO comes at a precarious time for the U.S. cryptocurrency sector. Lawmakers are advancing a long-anticipated market structure bill that could redefine regulations surrounding securities and products, even as there are concerns that larger firms like Coinbase might harm critical industry components.

Notably, the crypto sector has faced instability following a significant selloff in October, which has toughened the landscape for attracting investor interest and complicating the capital-raising efforts for various companies.

Other firms, like crypto asset manager Grayscale and the exchange Kraken, are also eyeing IPOs this year, with BitGo’s debut serving as a crucial test for market responsiveness.

In a different context, rivals Circle and Figures made their market entries with notable success in early 2025, benefiting from a bullish environment for digital assets, spurred partly by supportive regulatory frameworks and a strong performance from Bitcoin.

Founded in 2013, BitGo has established itself as a key player in the cryptocurrency custody space, a role that has gained significance as institutional investment in digital assets increases.

Notably, major financial firms like Goldman Sachs and Citigroup are leading the management of BitGo’s IPO process.

BitGo is set to trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol “BTGO.”
