Jack Smith Is Facing Intense Criticism in Congressional Hearing

Trump Criticizes Jack Smith During Congressional Testimony

In a recent testimony to Congress, President Donald Trump remarked that former special counsel Jack Smith is nearing a “fall from grace.”

On Truth Social, Trump accused Smith of spearheading both the classified documents case against him during the last presidential election and the inquiry into the January 6 Capitol incident. He stated, “Deranged Jack Smith has his sentence commuted by Congress. It’s over once Congress discusses his past failures and wrongful prosecution. He destroyed so many lives under the guise of legitimacy.”

Trump didn’t hold back, describing Smith as “a mad animal” who, in his view, should lose his ability to practice law. He insisted that if Smith were a Republican, his license would likely be revoked. Furthermore, Trump expressed hope that Attorney General Pam Bondi would launch an investigation into Smith’s actions.

Trump said, “I hope the Attorney General will review what he has done, including some of the evil and corrupt witnesses he sought to use in the case against me. The whole thing was a fraud by the Democrats. They should pay dearly for what they have caused our country to suffer!”

During a House Judiciary hearing, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) also criticized Smith, alleging he was acting as President Joe Biden’s “right hand” in targeting Biden’s political rivals. Issa questioned why Smith engaged in monitoring the activities of Speaker of the House and others, implying that such actions suggested an improper motive.

Issa asked, “Didn’t you see any constitutional optionality or separation of powers in spying on the Speaker’s activities and conversations? What exactly is the purpose of the conversation between the president’s deputy and the president? On what basis would that be your job, other than believing there was a conspiracy when the basic premise was that there was no conspiracy?”

Smith simply replied, “No.” Issa continued to challenge Smith, bringing up accusations that he didn’t inform Congress or the judiciary about the surveillance.

Issa stated, “Oh, that’s amazing. So you spied on the Speaker of the House, other senators, etc., didn’t tell anyone, and actually put a gag order on them so they couldn’t find out?”

Despite the heated atmosphere, Smith maintained that “no one in the office was spying on him.” The questioning concluded after a tense exchange with Ranking Member Jamie Raskin (D-MD).
