Julie Emerson Bows Out of Senate Race
On Thursday, Louisiana’s Representative Julie Emerson announced she will not be pursuing a Senate seat, particularly following the decision of President Trump’s endorsed candidate, Julia Letlow, to enter the Republican primary.
Emerson stated, “Congressman LeRoe’s announcement of his candidacy has diminished the path to victory that appeared months ago. I support President Trump and respect his decision to support Julia LeRoe to defeat Bill Cassidy. For this reason, I am choosing to end my campaign now.”
Senator Bill Cassidy, the incumbent Republican, has been representing Louisiana in the U.S. Senate since 2015 and is running for reelection.
Letlow Gains Traction Amid Trump’s Support
After Trump’s impeachment in 2021, Cassidy voted to convict him in a Senate vote that took place after Trump had left office, though the vote did not reach the necessary threshold for conviction.
Recently, Trump publicly backed Letlow in a post on Truth Social, urging her, “Run, Julia, run!!!”
Other Candidates in the Mix
John Fleming, Louisiana’s treasurer, along with state Senator Blake Miguez, are also contenders in this Republican Senate primary.
Letlow, in announcing her candidacy, stated, “Today, I am announcing my candidacy for the United States Senate to help make the country we leave to our children safer and stronger. Louisiana deserves an unwaveringly conservative senator. I am honored to have President Trump’s support and trust. Let’s go!”
