“The View” Welcomes New York City’s Mayor Zoran Mamdani
The co-hosts of “The View” were excited to welcome newly inaugurated New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani (D) on the show. Whoopi Goldberg, in particular, expressed strong support for his proposed policies.
Mamdani has taken office with plans to strengthen rent controls and redistribute wealth but has also had the advantage of running against opponents, including a former governor with a troubled reputation and an unpopular outgoing mayor.
Goldberg’s enthusiastic remarks received loud cheers from the audience.
At the conclusion of Monday’s episode, she conveyed her hope that Mamdani’s socialist policies would eventually influence the rest of the country.
“I’m really glad you’re here. What you say makes sense,” she said, eliciting a smile from the mayor.
“Thank you!” he replied.
“Well, that’s important,” she continued. “If you can achieve what you’re promising, not only might you rebuild a city, but you could also help in rebuilding a nation.” Her comments sparked another wave of applause.
“So, fingers crossed for you!” she added.
However, a video of her statements circulated on social media and faced significant backlash.
One commenter stated, “He won’t do that. He’ll make promises, and it will all fall apart. It’ll be a case of what not to do for a city.”
Another critic said, “Many will suffer due to his mistakes. The silver lining might be that when he sinks the city, perhaps New York will realize it needs a Republican in charge.”
Yet another response was, “We want him gone! We don’t want anything to do with this 15-year-old jihadist! Whoopi used to be a fantastic actress, but now… she seems quite misguided.”
Mamdani has set ambitious goals for his administration, focusing on alleviating housing issues and reducing childcare costs.
Critics argue that implementing rent controls could lead to fewer available rentals and, ironically, increased rents overall.
A complete episode of “The View,” featuring interviews with Mamdani, is available on the show’s YouTube channel.
