Claims of Dismissal Over Opposition to Transgender Treatments
Glenna Goldis, an Assistant Attorney General, stated on Thursday that her termination by New York Attorney General Letitia James came after she publicly opposed child sex reassignment treatments. Goldis, who identifies as a lesbian, expressed feeling marginalized by her colleagues in James’s office for voicing her concerns.
She reported that while working at the New York Attorney General’s Consumer Fraud and Protection Bureau, her advocacy against what she calls “dangerous consumer fraud” in Pediatric Gender Medicine (PGM) was met with resistance. According to Goldis, some attorneys at James’s firm struggled to articulate why her views were considered problematic.
In a social media post, Goldis mentioned a legal case she referenced, where it was stated that prohibiting PGM is not discrimination. This prompted backlash from her general counsel, who labeled a passage from her blog as contrary to James’s legal stance.
Goldis’s LinkedIn profile indicates she served as an Assistant Attorney General from January 2022 until her recent dismissal.
She alleged that someone posing as James’s ethics officer cautioned her about the ethics of taking public stances that didn’t align with James’s views, making Goldis feel as though she was being pressured into silence.
Goldis further pointed out that she belongs to the same LGBTQ community that James purports to advocate for. In her social media commentary, she explained her concern that PGM inherently targets children who defy sexual norms and highlighted that research suggests these children may be more likely to identify as homosexual in adulthood.
She expressed concern over potential side effects of PGM, raising issues like sexual dysfunction and chronic pain, and noted that no one in James’s office acknowledged the possibility that PGM might be homophobic.
“If Letitia James genuinely cared about LGBTQ youth, she would investigate how ‘gender’ drugs function,” Goldis added, implying that James’s stance was more about ideology than the safety of youth.
Goldis became aware of youth gender medicine a few years back and felt that practitioners often failed to logically explain their positions. In her writings, she questioned the rationale behind certain gender assertions and expressed frustration with the lack of substantive answers from gender specialists.
James has been a vocal supporter of LGBTQ rights and transgender issues, stating her commitment to fighting for the rights and dignity of the transgender community.
Amidst these developments, the Trump administration has pursued efforts against what it terms gender ideology, with President Trump having declared policies that strictly enforce laws against what he called “life-altering procedures” for children.
