Attorney General Fired Employee Over Gender-Affirming Care Concerns
A lawyer specializing in consumer fraud has claimed that she was unexpectedly dismissed by New York State Attorney General Letitia James after expressing concerns about gender-affirming treatments for children.
Glenna Gordis criticized the attorney general’s office on Thursday, stating that she was treated like a nuisance when she began voicing her worries regarding gender health care for minors.
“James was wrong to treat me like a pest. I was simply trying to alert her to the potential issues surrounding pediatric gender medicine— which is exactly why she brought me on board,” she commented in a pointed statement on social media.
Goldis expressed frustration that the Attorney General’s office accused her of fostering “destructive public discourse,” which she firmly denies. She clarified her stance, saying, “I’m not hindering the elite’s support for pediatric gender medicine; I’m just getting started.” She admitted to raising alarms about fraudulent practices possibly connected to gender medicine as early as 2024.
She argued that some legal staff in James’s office initially found it challenging to articulate why her public criticisms of transgender ideology aimed at children were problematic.
According to her, when they finally pinpointed a concerning section on her blog, it related to the U.S. v. Scumetti case, which she claims was misaligned with James’s legal stance. “They noted that was contrary to what James believes,” Gordis stated.
Goldis further alleged that she was warned it would be considered “unethical” for her to publicly oppose the attorney general’s views. She claimed there was an effort to “silence” her through intimidation.
Identifying as a lesbian and part of the LGBTQ community that James is said to support, Goldis criticized leftist officials for framing gender-affirming care as a moral battle. “In my 15 years of public interest law, I find many progressive lawyers, including my friends, also have reservations about pediatric gender medicine,” she elaborated.
However, she lamented that left-wing leadership is treating this as a stark conflict between good and evil, which stifles public discourse. Her experiences reflect a sentiment that discussions about pediatric gender medicine in New York often lean heavily in one direction, differing significantly from private conversations.
A spokesperson for the Attorney General’s office confirmed her termination, stating, “The Attorney General’s Office has designated rules and protocols for employees participating in activities that could impact our operations.” They accused Goldis of repeatedly ignoring these procedures, ultimately undermining their efforts to uphold the rights of all New Yorkers.
As the office grapples with ongoing federal lawsuits against the Trump administration concerning restrictions on children’s gender transition procedures, this situation continues to unfold.
