Brazilian Man Pleads Guilty to Assaulting Federal Agents

A Brazilian man has admitted to assaulting a federal agent after a tumultuous arrest in Connecticut last year. This incident involved him allegedly biting one Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent and spitting on another. This development was announced by federal prosecutors on Friday.

Luis Peterson Roa Ferreira Borges, who is 25 years old, entered his plea on Thursday before U.S. District Judge Vernon Oliver in Hartford, as detailed in a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut.

The situation arose during his arrest by ICE agents on June 25, 2025, near Zion Street in Hartford. Prosecutors indicated that Ferreira-Borges resisted arrest and became aggressive once taken into custody.

According to the prosecutors, upon being loaded into a government vehicle, he began to kick, swing, and shout profanities at Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers.

As the vehicle made its way to the federal building in Hartford, Ferreira-Borges allegedly lifted his legs and, somewhat disturbingly, expressed an intention to kick the driver in the neck. Then, he bit a different ERO employee who attempted to restrain him and spat at the officer driving.

Ferreira-Borges has been in custody since his arrest and faces up to a year in prison when he is sentenced on April 16.

A warrant for his arrest was issued by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on October 10, 2023, based on suspicions that he was in the U.S. unlawfully.

This warrant follows another arrest in September 2023 on various state charges, including assault on a public safety officer and others related to intimidation and interference. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut did not respond promptly to requests for comments.
