Karl-Anthony Towns and Mike Brown’s Adjustments
Mike Brown and Karl-Anthony Towns have both noted that Towns has adapted to Brown’s system more than any other player. However, Brown is also adapting his approach to better suit Towns.
“He’s starting to find his rhythm,” Brown said after practice on Friday. “But I’ve also made some changes to simplify things for him, and I think it’s helping.”
According to Brown, this includes tweaking various play calls and actions. “We’re trying to position him to get involved quicker,” he explained.
This season, Towns has seen a drop in production under Brown compared to last year with Tom Thibodeau. Josh Hart, who plays a crucial role in integrating Towns into the team’s strategy, believes adaptation goes both ways.
“It’s definitely a different vibe,” Hart mentioned on Friday. “But as players, we need to adjust to new situations. Coaches need to pivot too. I think we’re still searching for that sweet spot.”
He added, “At the end of the day, he’s a talented offensive player and he’ll figure it out. But we need to emphasize defense. I’d rather focus on him blocking shots than worrying about his scoring touch.”
Meanwhile, Gershon Yabusele, who is reportedly involved in trade talks, hinted at a possible departure from the Knicks. He shared a now-deleted post, expressing contentment with his current position despite setbacks.
“Regardless of what happens tomorrow, I’m really happy with where I am right now,” Yabusele wrote. “Overcoming challenges to return to the majors is the part I love most. Appreciate you all.”
He also reshared a post on social media suggesting, “Best situation for trade and captain,” fueling speculation about his future.
Currently, Towns, who is dealing with thoracic back spasms, is doubtful for the upcoming game against the 76ers in Philadelphia.
