Disturbing question asked by 4-year-old daughter of a man accused of killing his wife to her father's mistress nanny

Tragic Circumstances Surrounding Virginia Mother’s Death

A four-year-old girl, whose mother, Christine Banfield, was allegedly murdered, innocently asked her nanny if she would marry her father shortly after her mother’s death. This occurred at their Northern Virginia home, days after the shocking crime.

The girl, seemingly unaware of the gravity of the situation, posed the question to her 25-year-old nanny, Juliana Perez Magalhães. A police victim advocate witnessed this peculiar moment and later testified about it.

“Are you going to marry my daddy?” the little girl inquired, leading to an odd interaction that raised eyebrows among those present. Magalhães, it seems, replied, “I would like to do that,” which some interpreted as a troubling response.

This exchange was one of the first indicators that Christine’s husband, Brendan Banfield—an IRS employee—might be hiding something, according to testimony from witnesses.

Brendan, 40, is currently on trial accused of stabbing Christine, 37, to death and shooting an alleged assailant inside their home in February 2023. The details coming out during the trial are chilling.

Following his arrest in September 2024, Brendan faced attempted rape charges related to a plot to “remove” his wife and run away with Magalhães. Their alleged plan involved masquerading as Christine on a fetish website to lure a man named Joseph Ryan into their home under false pretenses.

In a disturbing twist, Ryan allegedly broke in with a knife while Brendan waited with a handgun. During the incident, Magalhães testified that they burst into the bedroom, resulting in a violent encounter where Ryan was shot and Christine was brutally attacked.

Prosecutors claim that Brendan tried to portray himself as a hero during the aftermath, which has left many questioning his true motives.

Details suggest Brendan’s decision to take Christine’s life came just two months after he began an affair with Magalhães. He reportedly felt burdened by the prospect of divorce and made dismissive remarks about Christine’s parenting abilities.

After the murder, Magalhães moved in with Brendan, even hanging her lingerie in Christine’s closet. This unsettling scenario continued until her arrest in October 2023, where she was charged with murder and later pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

As the trial unfolds, it is expected to last several weeks. Brendan’s defense suggests that his arrest was part of an attempt to redirect blame onto his former partner. While he no longer works for the IRS, a conviction could lead to a life sentence for him.
