Recent reports indicate that California Republican gubernatorial candidates Chad Bianco and Steve Hilton are in the lead over their Democratic counterparts.
Kathy Barnett, who hosts a weekend show on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, mentioned on X that Riverside County Sheriff Bianco claimed he is “leading the race for California governor,” according to Politico.
A poll from Politico shows that Bianco leads Hilton by just 1 point, with Bianco at 18% and Hilton at 17%.
On the Democratic side, former Representative Katie Porter garnered 14% of the vote, while Representative Eric Swalwell received 11%. Billionaire climate activist Tom Steyer followed with 8%, and former Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra captured 6%.
The fact that Bianco and Hilton are ahead suggests growing dissatisfaction with the Democratic Party in California.
Breitbart News noted that a poll by national pollster David Wolfson in March found that nearly 50% of likely California voters were open to voting for a Republican candidate for governor.
“This is a referendum,” Bianco remarked on X. He stated, “This is a California that rejects Gavin Newsom’s anti-ICE, anti-business, anti-women, anti-gun policies.”
According to Bianco’s campaign website, he aims to “cut taxes for working families and businesses,” “reduce unnecessary regulations to promote job growth,” and “utilize California’s energy resources to decrease gas and utility costs.”
Bianco’s other goals include enhancing California’s safety by stopping illegal crossings, eliminating sanctuary policies, and breaking up drug trafficking networks.
He announced his run for California governor in February, advocating for the elimination of the state’s income tax.
He asserted, “It’s time to abolish state income tax,” in a post on X last December, suggesting that taxpayers should not bear the burden for special interests in Sacramento.
In October, Breitbart News reported an Emerson College poll showing Hilton, a conservative commentator, with a narrow lead over Porter, capturing 16% to her 15%. Bianco reportedly received 11%, while former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Becerra got 5% each.
