Jason Biggs Discusses “American Pie” with Son
Jason Biggs recently opened up about an important conversation he had with his 11-year-old son, Sid, regarding his iconic role in “American Pie.”
The actor, now 47, shared that Sid and his younger brother Laszlo have often asked about the film. “They kept hearing about ‘American Pie’ and pie, and they kept asking, ‘Daddy, what do we do with pie?'” Biggs recounted during an appearance on SiriusXM’s “The Julia Cunningham Show.” He felt it was necessary to handle the topic directly, so he showed Sid the infamous scene where his character’s awkward encounter with a pie occurs.
Interestingly, Biggs noted that the movie often resurfaces in his life. He recalled a moment walking in New York City when a stranger yelled at him, “Hey, it’s pie.” Luckily, he mentioned the boys nearby didn’t catch the reference.
“That kind of pushed me to have this conversation with them,” Biggs said, explaining the importance of addressing such topics proactively. “This is my version of a sex talk,” he added, emphasizing how crucial it is for kids to hear these stories from trusted sources instead of their peers at school.
Biggs also pondered how much his son might already know. Before revealing the scene, he asked Sid, “What do you think is going to happen?” Surprisingly, Sid guessed correctly.
Initially, Sid felt awkward about the scene, but Biggs chose to show it to him to lighten the mood. “He was a bit uncomfortable at first,” Biggs reflected, “but he ended up laughing. He even told me I was a good actor!”
In “American Pie,” Biggs’ character, Jim, infamously gets caught by his father in a compromising position with a pie. Alongside Sid and Laszlo, Biggs has been navigating fatherhood since marrying Jenny Molen in 2008.
Looking back, Biggs had shared his concerns about how his sons might hear about the film from friends. “I imagine one of his friends saying, ‘I saw your dad’s… on TV last night!'” he remarked, acknowledging the real possibility of such situations arising.
Biggs expressed gratitude for having both a son and a daughter, although he suggested that raising a son may seem less complicated in some ways. He appreciates the dynamic of his family and is unsure how discussions will unfold in the future.
The original “American Pie,” released in 1999, featured an ensemble cast, including Seann William Scott and Alyson Hannigan, and has since spawned three sequels. Recently, Mena Suvari shared her enthusiasm for the possibility of returning to the franchise, indicating interest among the cast for future projects.
