Timberwolves-Warriors game delayed following shooting involving Border Patrol

Saturday’s NBA matchup between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors has been postponed following a tragic shooting involving a Border Patrol agent.

The NBA stated that the decision was made out of concern for the safety of the Minneapolis community, mentioning that the game would now be played on Sunday. Earlier this month, the Timberwolves had a moment of silence for Renee Good, a woman who lost her life after being shot by ICE agents.

Good, 37, died when officials instructed her to exit her vehicle, which she reportedly refused to do, allegedly trying to strike them with her car, as shared by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

In a reflection of the community’s grief, the arena’s public address announcer expressed condolences to Good’s family, highlighting the need for healing and unity during such a difficult time. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr labeled Good’s death as “murder,” voicing concern over police conduct and misinformation spreading around the incident.

Kerr remarked, “It’s truly shameful that we have police officers in our country who commit murder and pretend they’re not guilty.” He expressed sorrow over the loss of life, particularly in such circumstances and for the impact it has on families and communities.

The Timberwolves acknowledged the NBA’s announcement, while the Warriors did not provide comments. As for the individual involved in the incident, Minneapolis authorities later disclosed that he was a 37-year-old man from Minneapolis, who was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The Department of Homeland Security informed that the suspect was armed with a gun and two magazines. They claimed that, fearing for the safety of officers, one officer fired in self-defense, and medical assistance was rendered immediately, though the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The authorities described the scenario as one where the individual appeared to pose a substantial threat to law enforcement.

Reports indicated that afterward, about 200 individuals began obstructing and assaulting law enforcement at the scene, which resulted in crowd control measures being implemented. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz called for investigations concerning the shooting to leave the state.
