Isaiah Thomas Expresses Outrage Over Minnesota Shooting Involving Border Patrol
Former NBA player Isaiah Thomas has voiced his anger regarding a recent shooting incident involving the Border Patrol that resulted in the death of a Minnesota man. The victim, identified as 37-year-old Alex J. Preti, was shot and killed during a confrontation with police during a Homeland Security operation in south Minneapolis.
Thomas, among several critics of the situation, highlighted the disparities in the encounter. He pointed out on social media, “Six men beat one man and then kill him!! F— ICE agents. Six against one and still shoot and kill someone. It’s absurd.” His comments reveal a strong disapproval of how such situations unfold, akin to a video game rather than a real-life conflict.
Following the incident, the Minnesota Timberwolves postponed their game against the Golden State Warriors, indicating how seriously this event impacted local communities.
Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino stated that the early morning operation targeted Jose Huerta-Chuma, an undocumented immigrant known for a criminal history that includes offenses like domestic assault and driving without a valid license.
DHS officials reported that during the operation, Preti allegedly approached agents while armed with a 9mm semi-automatic handgun and two magazines. It was confirmed that he held a legal carry permit.
Bovino remarked on the experience of the officers involved, stating they were highly trained agents with eight years of service. The investigation into the shooting is being led by the DHS, in coordination with the FBI.
In another vein, President Donald Trump commented on the matter via social media, questioning the lack of local police assistance during the confrontation. He posed, “Where are the local police? Why weren’t they allowed to protect ICE officers? Did the mayor and governor fire them?” His remarks reflect a broader concern over law enforcement protocols in such tense situations.
