Shapiro claims Harris's vetting team disrespected his wife.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro discussed his experiences during the vetting process for vice president in a CBS interview with Norah O’Donnell, expressing that he felt disrespected by the team, particularly regarding how they addressed his wife. He mentioned in his upcoming book, “Where We Keep the Light,” that he grappled with discomfort when the team asked questions he found offensive.

O’Donnell referenced a part of Shapiro’s book where he describes how his wife suggested he invest in new clothing and grooming, which, he noted, didn’t sit well with him. Shapiro replied, saying that certain inquiries, particularly those that seemed to question the respect for his spouse, made him reconsider the opportunity.

During their conversation, O’Donnell pointed out Shapiro’s view that the vetting process felt unnecessarily tense. Shapiro confirmed this, sharing displeasure over comments about his wife and a specific inquiry that suggested he was linked to the Israeli government. He recalled being asked by former Biden aide Dana Remus if he was an “agent” for that government, which he found troubling.

Shapiro understands the need for thorough questions but emphasized that some felt more probing than necessary. He expressed discomfort at being questioned about his loyalty to the country, especially considering his long commitment to public service and his faith. He acknowledged that the questioning is part of their job but felt it crossed a line at times.

Shapiro also mentioned he wasn’t sure if Harris herself was privy to some of the inquiries directed at him, especially regarding Israel. He had attempted to reach out to Harris about stepping back from the nomination but faced resistance from her staff. Notably, Harris’ office has not commented on the situation.
