Andrew McCutchen Uninvited to Pirates Fan Fest, Expresses Disappointment
Andrew McCutchen, a notable figure in Pittsburgh Pirates history, has voiced his dissatisfaction with the team after not receiving an invitation to the upcoming Fan Fest ahead of the 2026 MLB season.
Having spent 12 of his 17 years in Major League Baseball with the Pirates, McCutchen won the National League MVP award in 2013. He played with the team for the last three seasons, but, despite his contributions, he wasn’t asked to engage with fans at this significant event.
On social media, McCutchen shared his thoughts, highlighting how various legends from other MLB teams were part of their Fan Fest. He seemed to draw parallels to his own standing within the Pirates organization.
In a candid statement, McCutchen said, “If this was my last year, it would have been nice to see the fans one last time as a player.” It’s a sentiment that resonates, suggesting a longing for connection with the fanbase he has entertained for years.
In response to McCutchen’s absence, Pirates General Manager Ben Cherington acknowledged the player’s impact: “Andrew means a lot to the team. He’s had great performances at two different times. Certainly, his legacy as a Pirate is secure.” Cherington emphasized the desire to maintain a positive relationship with McCutchen moving forward.
Although he is a free agent, the 39-year-old still harbors hopes of playing in the 2026 season. Many speculate that a return to the Pirates might be in his future, even if it hasn’t yet materialized with spring training just around the corner.
Cherington commented on the team’s approach this offseason, focusing on assembling a roster that enhances their chances of success. He expressed respect for McCutchen, stating, “We will continue to communicate directly with him as the team comes together.”
Last season, McCutchen played 135 games with a batting average of .239, but throughout his career with the Pirates, he has impressively maintained a .281 average, alongside 248 home runs and over 850 RBIs.
