Trump’s Demands to Minnesota Officials Amid Unrest

Last Sunday, President Trump issued four demands to Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota, as well as Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and other Democratic leaders across the U.S., in an effort to address the rising “fires of division, chaos, and violence” that have recently gripped Minneapolis.

He stated, “These demands are based on common sense and will help create the best possible conditions for making America great again.” Trump communicated this via Truth Social.

He emphasized that the Trump administration is ready to cooperate while urging Democrats to collaborate on pressing issues to ensure public safety, suggesting they engage more with local leaders nationwide.

The four specific requests included:

  • Handing over to federal authorities any illegal immigrant who is either incarcerated locally or has an outstanding arrest warrant.
  • Mandating that state and local law enforcement agencies transfer illegal immigrants to federal authorities.
  • Requesting local police to assist in tracking and detaining illegal immigrants who are wanted for committing crimes.
  • Cooperating with the federal government to expedite the removal of all criminal illegal aliens from the country.

Moreover, Trump urged Congress to repeal the sanctuary city policy, labeling it “the root cause of all these issues.”

Last week, Attorney General Pam Bondi also urged Walz to provide data on Minnesota’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Medicaid, remove sanctuary policies, and allow the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division access to voter rolls.

In a press conference on Sunday, Walz brushed off Bondi’s demands, remarking, “There are two million documents in the Epstein file that we’re still waiting on. Go ahead and get to work.” He also opposed calls to extradite illegal immigrants housed in Minnesota prisons, stating, “They’re lying. We will always hand them over.”

Meanwhile, Tom Homan, who is referred to as Trump’s “border czar,” announced plans to travel to Minnesota, emphasizing that gaining access to local jails is a priority for the administration.

In a statement, Trump noted, “Tom Homan will be sent to Minnesota tonight,” presenting this on Truth Social. He mentioned that Homan is familiar with many people in the area, portraying him as tough yet fair.

The Trump administration initiated Operation Metro Surge late last year, which led to an influx of approximately 3,000 Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents in Minneapolis, as reported by Frey.

This crackdown on immigration follows rising concerns over significant welfare fraud in Minnesota. Protests have erupted in the Twin Cities in response to the increased federal law enforcement presence.

The unrest intensified after the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Renee Good by ICE on January 7, following her aggressive maneuvering of her SUV towards officers, and the Border Patrol’s shooting of Alex Preti on Saturday.
