President Trump’s Optimism for 2028 Los Angeles Olympics
President Trump believes that Los Angeles can effectively host the 2028 Summer Olympics, especially with the backing of the U.S. military.
“I think we can manage it, but we need to prioritize military safety. That’s key,” he shared in an interview from the Oval Office. He pointed out how, historically, the National Guard’s deployment to Washington, D.C. achieved significant improvements.
Trump recalled, “When we brought in the National Guard, they helped clean up. They were literally picking up trash. Just look at how much tidier Washington is now. All those fences are gone because, well, there aren’t as many people lying around.”
He also praised Casey Wasserman, the head of the 2028 Olympic Organizing Committee, saying he is “a very nice person.” The president emphasized the need for strong security measures.
This month, the lottery for Olympic tickets launched, with the Games scheduled from July 14 to July 30, 2028. These Olympics are anticipated to be the largest ever, featuring over 11,000 athletes across 51 sports.
Despite his confidence in the event’s success, Trump criticized California’s Democratic leadership, declaring Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass “incompetent.” He recalled sending 700 Marines and 4,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles last June to protect federal buildings amid riots.
In a broader discussion, Trump emphasized that immigration authorities should concentrate on the most serious offenders among those in the U.S. illegally, and shortly after made remarks about directing his team to address the status of farm and restaurant workers not associated with criminal records.
