Witkoff praises the return of the last Israeli hostage's remains from Gaza Strip

New Era in the Middle East Following Hostage Recovery

U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff has expressed optimism about a new chapter in the Middle East, especially following the return of the remains of the last Israeli hostage from Gaza.

On Monday, the body of Israeli police officer Ran Gviri was brought back to Israel, completing the process of returning all hostages, both living and deceased.

“Yesterday was a historic day,” Witkoff stated. “All 20 living hostages and all 28 deceased from Gaza have now been returned to their families. This remarkable achievement, which many thought impossible, is due to the hard work of countless individuals, notably the president—who truly works tirelessly for peace.”

“This moment closes a painful chapter for many families and opens the door to a future marked by peace, not conflict, and prosperity rather than ruin,” he continued. “Today signifies a new dawn in the Middle East. President Trump, my team, and I are dedicated to fostering lasting peace and prosperity for everyone in the region.”

Last Hostage’s Body Confirmed Recovered

An organization representing families of kidnapped individuals, formed after the attack on October 7, acknowledged Witkoff’s efforts and echoed his sentiments, suggesting that without the current administration, the hostages might never have been returned.

In his remarks on Truth Social, President Trump celebrated the recovery of Gviri’s remains, highlighting the successful return of all hostages. “We’ve just retrieved the body of the last hostage in Gaza,” he noted. “Great job! Something many believed would be impossible. Kudos to my fantastic team!”

Celebration of a Diplomatic Achievement

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also recognized Trump during a speech at the Knesset, appreciating the significant support he provided, along with Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Trump has previously made notable diplomatic strides during his presidency, including facilitating the Abraham Accords, which normalized relations between Israel and several Arab nations.

Witkoff and Trump notably visited Israel on the day the final living hostage was returned after over two years. Their arrival was met with applause from the National Assembly.

“No American president has done more for Israel,” Netanyahu remarked at that time, underscoring the administration’s impact.

While celebrating the return of living hostages, Witkoff also expressed empathy for those who lost loved ones. “Even amid relief and joy, my heart goes out to those whose relatives won’t return,” he said. “Bringing back the deceased is a duty that dignifies their legacy.”

The Story of Ran Gviri

Ran Gviri, just 24 at the time of his death, should have been resting at home on October 7, waiting for surgery on a shoulder injury. Instead, when a rocket siren went off, he donned his uniform and went to fight. He ultimately lost his life near Kibbutz Al-Mim, with his body remaining in Gaza for over 840 days.

In December, Gviri’s mother, Tariq, penned an op-ed for a news outlet, reminiscing about her son’s bravery and urging for his return. “My Ran never hesitated when faced with evil… that was my son,” she expressed regarding his actions on that fateful day.

“I promise you, my Ran, your story will be known worldwide. Everyone will learn about your bravery, your fight, and your unyielding spirit.”
