The arraignment for Patriots’ defensive tackle Christian Barmore regarding a domestic assault charge has been pushed back to after the Super Bowl taking place on February 8, 2026. Originally set for February 3, a judge approved a request from Barmore’s legal team to delay it until March 9. This delay comes as the Patriots are set to face the Seahawks at the Super Bowl.
According to Barmore’s attorney, David E. Meyer, “Additional time is needed to discuss this matter with Mr. Barmore and to prepare responsibly for his arraignment hearing.”
He faces a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery against a family or household member from an incident that allegedly occurred on August 8.
The incident appears to stem from a disagreement over the air conditioning temperature in the apartment, escalating as the woman attempted to gather her belongings. During the altercation, she reported that Barmore grabbed her, pushed her to the ground, and held her by her shirt near the neck when she tried to get up. The woman, identified as being in a relationship with an NFL player and the mother of Barmore’s two-year-old daughter, later filed a police report on August 25. She initially held off on contacting law enforcement out of fear due to Barmore’s status and wealth.
Photos showing bruises consistent with her account of the incident were provided to police. This legal development follows another case where a judge allowed Patriots receiver Stefon Diggs to postpone his arraignment on assault charges to February 13.
Meyer has publicly denied the allegations, expressing confidence that evidence will demonstrate that no crime occurred. “We look forward to resolving this personal matter soon,” he said, adding that both parties are eager to move past these events.
The Patriots confirmed their awareness of the incident, stating they informed the NFL promptly and would continue to monitor the situation while cooperating fully with the league.
Barmore was drafted by the Patriots in 2021 and notably started 16 out of 17 games in the 2025 season.
