Sacramento family killed in home with hidden traps identified

A heartbreaking incident in Sacramento ended in tragedy, as a family of four was discovered dead in what is suspected to be a murder-suicide within their home. Neighbors expressed disbelief over the grim reality of the situation.

The family identified as David Barrelga, his wife Lindsey G. Peralta-Barrega, along with their two children, 11-year-old Sydney and 13-year-old Colton, were found with gunshot wounds on Tuesday, according to community members.

“Their kids often played with ours. We’ve lived next to them for over 14 years, and honestly, I can’t recall a time I saw anything but happiness on their faces,” noted a neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous.

Another resident recounted warm memories of the family, recalling how she had brought them eggs from her farm not long before. “It was such a shock. I mean, we thought everything was fine,” she said, reflecting on the devastating turn of events.

Officers responded to a residence on Mill Water Circle after a call was made by an individual claiming, “I’m the shooter. I booby-trapped him and turned off his cell phone,” as reported by local news. Authorities suspect that David Barrega may have taken the lives of his family before ending his own.
