Kid Rock Testifies at Senate Hearing on Ticket Pricing

Musician Kid Rock recently spoke at a Senate hearing, expressing his concerns that the current bill does not adequately address ticket price gouging, which he argues pushes fans into the costly resale market. He referred to the pricing practices of Fox News as “out of control.”

Known as Robert James Ritchie, Kid Rock criticized the unfairness in ticket sales during a session with the Senate Commerce Committee, which also included executives from Live Nation, Ticketmaster’s parent company. “We want to fix ticket prices. They’ve been out of control for over 30 years,” Rock stated.

He appeared alongside Senator Marsha Blackburn, who chaired the hearing, and emphasized that the merger between Ticketmaster and Live Nation has exacerbated issues for consumers. “If you ask anyone about buying tickets to popular events these days, they’ll say it’s a complete disaster,” he commented, reiterating the merger’s negative impact.

Kid Rock has a history of advocating against ticket scalping, having previously worked with the Trump administration on related initiatives. He notably appeared with former President Trump when an executive order aimed at banning ticket scalpers was signed in March 2025.

The order sought to enforce competition laws and improve price transparency while ensuring compliance with regulations. In addition, Kid Rock called for stricter enforcement of the federal BOTS law, which aims to hinder automated ticket-buying software.

In August 2025, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission took legal action against a ticket reseller accused of bypassing purchase limits by acquiring tickets en masse, only to sell them at inflated prices.

Despite some progress, Kid Rock emphasized that more is needed to address the underlying issues. “We’re also trying to get to the root of the problem. As artists, we hope for legislation that ensures fans can access tickets at fair prices and puts an end to those who exploit them,” he concluded.
