Brother of Alleged Attacker Claims Long-Standing Hatred Towards Somali Community

The brother of the man accused of spraying a substance on Rep. Ilhan Omar in Minnesota has revealed that the alleged attacker has held a deep-seated resentment towards the Somali community for years. He stated, “I’m not surprised that something like this happened,” while discussing his estrangement from his brother, Anthony Kazmierczak, who he says embraces extremist views.

“Unfortunately, he and my mother are both right-wing extremists,” he commented, adding that they have not communicated for about four years. He expressed a sense of concern about Kazmierczak’s anger, suggesting that it’s something he’s grappled with since childhood.

Incident Overview

The incident occurred during a town hall meeting where Omar was discussing issues related to immigration policy. Kazmierczak, 55, reportedly charged toward her while she criticized Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and advocated for the abolition of ICE. A video captured the moment he sprayed her with an unknown substance from a syringe before being subdued by security.

Despite the attack, Omar continued her speech, insisting, “Just give me 10 minutes. Don’t let them put on a show.” After the event, she wiped herself off and pressed on.

Background on Kazmierczak’s Hatred

According to his brother, Kazmierczak’s animosity towards the Somali community predated Omar’s election to Congress in 2019. “He harbored hatred towards the Somali community for probably 20 years,” he remarked. The brother mentioned his brother’s long-term struggles with anger, which have been present for as long as he can remember and noted that Kazmierczak has received therapy intermittently throughout his life.

A neighbor of Kazmierczak’s shared that he had sent a vague email hinting at something he might do at the town hall, expressing a desire to take action related to Omar. The neighbor, who didn’t take his comments seriously, recalled that Kazmierczak mentioned “doing the Omar thing” and perceived it as a casual remark rather than something serious.

Ultimately, this incident highlights not only a specific attack on a public figure but also reflects deeper issues within individuals who carry long-standing grievances against particular communities.
