Mother Endures 5 Years of Infertility, Then Is 'Completely Astonished' When She Becomes Pregnant Naturally

NEED TO KNOW

  • Caitlin Wright was taken aback when she discovered she was pregnant naturally after five years of struggling with infertility.

  • The mom and creator, who has been sharing her journey online, found out in December that she is expecting her second child.

  • She discussed her infertility experience and emotions surrounding her new pregnancy.

After five years of grappling with infertility, Caitlin Wright had almost given up hope for growing her family—until something unexpected occurred.

Wright, who openly shares her struggles on her TikTok channel, reveals that she and her husband decided to expand their family during the pandemic.

“We began trying to conceive in the summer of 2020, and after six months, some blood work indicated that my hormone levels were off,” she shares.

“We then consulted a reproductive endocrinologist and learned I had ‘diminished ovarian reserve,’ which led us to undergo four IUIs with that clinic. After switching clinics, we completed two more IUIs and one egg retrieval, which resulted in a five-day refresh that actually worked!”

“During my first pregnancy, I dealt with hyperemesis gravidarum and was incredibly ill for the first 22 weeks,” Wright recalls. “I later began sharing my exclusive pumping journey in 2024 and continued to discuss my infertility experience, gradually building a community on Instagram and TikTok with other EP moms and those facing similar challenges.”

Last year, Wright and her husband decided to try for another baby, and to their surprise, they found out they had conceived naturally at the end of December.

“I had a strange feeling near the end of my cycle and decided to take a test, which came back positive!” she explains. “We were totally shocked for most of the day, especially since it was just three days before Christmas, so the holiday buzz kept us a bit distracted.”

Even her friends and family were astounded at the news.

“Everyone was completely shocked, especially given our lengthy journey!” she notes. “But I don’t think our doctor was as surprised. She’s not just my OB; she also performed surgery to remove my endometriosis. We chose her for her expertise and because she would oversee our care throughout the pregnancy, ensuring continuity.”

Now in her first trimester, Wright has once again been facing hyperemesis gravidarum.

“This pregnancy has been challenging, as I’m dealing with hyperemesis again,” she admits. “Fortunately, we have a fantastic care team, and having gone through this before, we’re much better prepared.”

As she looks ahead to the upcoming months, Wright expresses her eagerness to embrace life with her new baby.

“I’m most excited about being a family of four,” she shares, reflecting on her toddler soon becoming a big brother.

Above all, Wright hopes that other women navigating similar paths can find comfort in knowing they are not alone.

“I want other moms dealing with infertility to understand that they’re not isolated in this struggle!” she states. “It can feel incredibly lonely, but there are communities online and in person for you to connect with.”
