Cleveland Browns Welcome New Head Coach Todd Monken
Shedur Sanders met his new head coach for the first time on Friday. The Cleveland Browns have opted to part ways with two-time Coach of the Year Kevin Stefanski. In his place, they’ve brought in Todd Monken, who was previously the offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens.
As Monken settled into his new role, Sanders visited his office, and the two shared a warm hug.
Monken mentioned how it felt almost preordained for him and Sanders to work together. “We tried to draft you last year, for God’s sake,” he joked. “Everything went well, you remember, right? We’ll have a chance to talk about it someday.” This moment elicited laughter from Sanders, who then sat down to chat with his new coach.
Although Sanders didn’t start this season, he made a notable impact in the latter half, playing in the final seven games, finishing with a record of 3-4 during that stretch. He earned a starting position but struggled with his performance—completing just 56.6% of his passes, accumulating 1,400 yards, with seven touchdowns and ten interceptions, placing him among the least effective quarterbacks in the league.
Given these statistics, it might explain why Browns general manager Andrew Berry has been non-committal about Sanders’ future. “We’re looking into the quarterback market,” Berry remarked. “It’s a crucial position that we need to secure.”
It appears that Sanders has a favorable impression of Monken, and he is likely to face competition with Dillon Gabriel for the starting quarterback role.
