Traveling Solo with Temporary Romance
Orsolya Lorincz describes her travels as a collection of experiences, much like one would collect passport stamps.
Many solo travelers, including Orsolya, have a playful strategy—she refers to it as finding a “temporary boyfriend” in each new country she explores. It’s an inventive way to enjoy free meals while immersing herself in local culture.
In a recent conversation, the 34-year-old traveler from Romania shared her unique travel tips. She emphasizes the importance of open communication with the men she meets. Most are more than willing to help her out.
“Typically, these romantic encounters last about a week,” Orsolya explained. “It really depends on how long I’m in the country.”
Upon arriving in a new place, she dives right into searching for potential companions on the dating app Hinge.
“I usually find a local guy quickly who’s okay with a casual arrangement,” she noted. “[He] shows me around, makes me breakfast, buys me drinks and food, and sometimes we hit it off enough that I stay over at his place.”
Orsolya began her solo travel journey back in 2016 after leaving her job and selling her apartment. This approach not only enriches her travels but also helps her manage her budget.
“I don’t see it as exploiting anyone. It’s more about getting free food or local tours,” she said. “Once I leave, that’s it for us.”
She believes that having local partners can help travelers avoid common tourist traps. “Connecting with locals can reveal secret spots and traditions that you wouldn’t normally find through travel agencies,” she said, adding that this helps open up a more authentic experience of the country.
Orsolya appreciates solo travel because it means she isn’t restricted by someone else’s schedule or expectations. “You can go wherever you want, whenever you feel like it,” she mentioned.
While she didn’t delve into safety measures when it comes to dating while traveling, Orsolya expressed a desire to promote the idea of women having the freedom to explore and enjoy their travels.
Recently, she has shared her experiences on social media, leading to an influx of offers from people around the globe wanting to be her temporary boyfriend.
“My messages are full of invitations for a week-long romance,” the enthusiastic traveler shared. “People say I can visit their country and be their girlfriend for a bit.”
