NFL Tight Ends: Talent and Predictions for the Future
The NFL has an impressive array of talent at the tight end position. Travis Kelce from the Kansas City Chiefs and George Kittle of the San Francisco 49ers are often seen as the veterans in the field. Both are expected to find themselves in the Hall of Fame once they retire.
Tyler Warren already made his mark in his rookie year with the Indianapolis Colts. And then there are younger players, like Kyle Pitts of the Atlanta Falcons and Trey McBride from Arizona, who had strong first seasons, alongside rising star Brock Bowers.
Brent Jones, a three-time Super Bowl champ with the 49ers, shared his thoughts about the current talent in the league. He expressed admiration for what he sees from today’s tight ends, emphasizing how the game has evolved.
In fact, several tight ends enjoyed fruitful seasons in 2025, with a handful surpassing 800 receiving yards during the regular season. “It’s exciting to see the position grow,” Jones remarked. He mentioned players like Kelce and Kittle but also pointed out the potential in up-and-comers like Warren and Bowers.
Kyle Pitts had a stellar rookie season but faced a rocky second year marked with injury and inconsistency. Despite that, there’s a belief that he’s close to reaching his peak performance. “I thought this was going to be his breakout year,” Jones noted, reflecting on Pitts’ ups and downs.
However, he also pointed out some frustration regarding Murray’s utilization in his current team scheme. “That kid is too athletic to not make a significant impact,” Jones said, hinting at a brighter future awaiting Pitts.
On the Pro Bowl front, McBride earned a starter spot, while Kittle had to withdraw due to an injury, meaning Dallas Cowboys’ Jake Ferguson stepped in for him. Bowers and Kelce also scored Pro Bowl nods, although the latter declined the invitation.
The New England Patriots will face off against the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX in what promises to be an electrifying matchup. This game is not just any game; it’s a rematch filled with past drama surrounding Russell Wilson’s famous interception.
Pats’ tight end Hunter Henry wrapped up the regular season with 768 receiving yards, while backup Austin Hooper made a notable impact during his rookie season. On the other side, Seahawks tight end AJ Varner finished strong with 519 receiving yards and six touchdowns.
Ultimately, Jones believes the Seahawks stand a good chance of clinching their second Super Bowl title this year, praising their robust defense and the story of quarterback Sam Darnold. “The Seahawks are positioned well, but the Patriots are certainly a formidable opponent,” he said.
