A man from Chile received an 11-year prison sentence on Monday after he deceived a teenage girl on Roblox into sending explicit images of herself. Subsequently, he flew to California, intending to meet her.
Daniel Andres Aravena Olivia, 22, hailing from Santiago, will serve 135 months in federal incarceration. He acknowledged his unsettling interactions with a 14-year-old girl via platforms like Roblox, FaceTime, and Zoom, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
His troubling behavior reportedly started in late 2023, when he initiated contact with the teen on the widely-used gaming platform, sending her messages that were described as “often sexual in nature,” as stated by federal prosecutors.
Eventually, he managed to persuade her to share explicit photos, but her family discovered the disturbing exchange in April 2024, according to authorities.
Upon learning of the situation, the girl’s parents blocked Olivia and reported him to the police. Yet, the case did not conclude there, prosecutors noted.
In August 2024, Olivia allegedly boarded a flight from Santiago to Los Angeles, planning to meet the girl for sexual encounters. However, federal agents apprehended him at the airport.
Authorities reportedly discovered incriminating evidence on his iPhone, including 50 images of the victim concealed within his “deleted photos” folder.
In March 2025, Olivia pleaded guilty to one count of inducing a minor to engage in unlawful sexual activity and another for possessing child pornography. He admitted to his actions and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald on Monday to pay $3,000 in restitution.
