Swedes Convicted of Terrorism in Denmark

Two Swedish nationals have been found guilty in Denmark for terrorism and attempted murder due to their involvement in an explosion near the Israeli embassy in Copenhagen, which occurred in October 2024.

The younger individual, aged 18, received a 12-year prison sentence, while his accomplice, who is 21, was sentenced to 14 years. Their identities have not been revealed, but reports indicate they are associated with a criminal organization.

The incident took place on October 2, 2024, when the duo launched a grenade at the Israeli embassy. The device detonated in a residential area, specifically on the terrace of a home occupied by a family with children. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported from this explosion, and the nearby Carolineskolen, a Jewish school, was closed during the attack.

Interestingly, while both men admitted to throwing the grenade, they claimed their actions were motivated by financial gain rather than any ideological stance.

The Danish judicial system was somewhat divided on this case. While two judges and four jurors voted for conviction, there was opposition from one judge and two jurors who disagreed with this verdict.

This event unfolded against the backdrop of ongoing conflict in Gaza, which had persisted for almost a year following a brutal attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023, resulting in significant casualties and the taking of hostages. The actions of the Israeli Defense Forces during the conflict sparked considerable international debate regarding their appropriateness.

Ultimately, the Gaza conflict reached a resolution in October 2025 after a peace agreement was established under the Trump administration.
