Trump calls Kaitlan Collins CNN's 'least impressive reporter' who never smiles.

On Tuesday, President Trump took the opportunity to criticize CNN anchor Caitlan Collins during a press briefing in the Oval Office. He labeled her as the “worst reporter” and remarked on her serious demeanor, noting he had “never seen [her] smile.”

In response to a question about the release of Epstein documents, Collins shot back, stating, “People like you are the reason CNN loses ratings.” She emphasized that Trump’s comments seemed out of place, given the serious nature of her work.

Trump continued, “I’ve known you for 10 years, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen you smile. I mean, that’s just my impression,” attributing her somberness to what he perceived as dishonesty in her reporting. He suggested that CNN should feel ashamed of the work they produce.

Collins attempted to respond, pointing out the sensitivity of the subject matter, tweeting that discussing survivors of sexual abuse doesn’t lend itself to a happy demeanor.

This exchange followed her comments regarding the dissatisfaction of some victims related to the Justice Department’s release of the Epstein files. Collins questioned the president about the lack of transparency in the documentation, mentioning that significant portions were redacted. “Do you think there should be more transparency?” she asked.

Trump, however, dismissed the question, pointing out that addresses to complaints about identity protection in the files had made the situation more complicated. He remarked that it seemed like a no-win situation regarding how much information was released.

He added humor to the conversation, suggesting that with “literally nothing” incriminating disclosed about him in the files, it might be time for the nation to shift focus to other matters.

Collins began her journalism career in 2016 at the Daily Caller as an entertainment reporter before transitioning to a role covering the White House. In 2017, she joined CNN and took on an anchor position in 2023.
