Mary Carrillo to Host Opening Ceremony of Winter Olympics
On Wednesday, NBC announced that sportscaster and former tennis player Mary Carrillo will step in for Savannah Guthrie as the host for this weekend’s opening of the Winter Olympics.
Guthrie’s mother, Nancy, aged 84, has been missing since Saturday night from her home in Arizona. Relatives alerted the authorities around noon on Sunday, as per comments from Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos.
Originally, Savannah Guthrie was set to co-host the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy, which will take place from February 6th to 22nd.
“Our hearts go out to Savannah and the entire Guthrie family; they will have our full support during this difficult time,” expressed Molly Solomon, the executive producer and president of NBC Olympics production. According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Solomon added, “We have an excellent pool of talented commentators, and Mary stands out as one of the most experienced in Olympic history and a compelling storyteller.”
Carrillo will co-host alongside NBC Sports correspondent Terry Gannon, guiding American viewers through this significant global event.
Continuing with the adjustments, correspondent Ahmed Fareed will take over as the Olympic Late Night anchor, filling in for Craig Melvin, and will remain in New York to host the morning show during Guthrie’s absence.
With his adaptability and proven hosting skills, the team is eager to have Fareed on board for the late-night coverage while also gearing up for the NBA All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles.
