Seahawks Rookie Emanwori Suffers Ankle Injury
The Seattle Seahawks might be facing a challenging situation. Rookie safety Nick Emanwori sustained an ankle injury during the team’s first practice of Super Bowl week at San Jose State, according to a report from the Pro Football Writers of America.
Emanwori, who is just 21, was designated as a restricted player and the injury occurred while he was in the process of defending a pass late in practice.
Reports indicate that he was able to leave the field on his own just before 4 PM local time, though many players and coaches approached him to offer support.
NFL Network noted that Emanwori will undergo imaging tests to evaluate the extent of the injury.
“He hurt his ankle today. We took him in to get him checked out and we’ll go from there to figure out the next steps,” head coach Mike McDonald shared with reporters.
Drafted 35th overall in 2025, Emanwori has already made a significant impact this season. He posted impressive statistics, including 81 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and one interception during the regular season, plus eight tackles in the playoffs.
According to NextGenStats, he faced 54 zone coverage targets without allowing a single touchdown, a standout performance among all nickel and safety players in the league.
“The players around me and my own personal goals just came into play,” Emanwori said earlier. “From day one of camp, I wanted to make an impact right away. I couldn’t wait to show myself to my teammates and to the NFL. Especially when I fell to the second round, I was like, ‘It’s finally here.’
While the team remains hopeful about his recovery, the uncertainty adds pressure during a critical time in the season.
