All 19 Democratic representatives from New York have endorsed Governor Kathy Hochul for reelection, following the lead of New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani.

This substantial backing comes right before the state party convention in Syracuse on Friday, where Hochul is anticipated to secure her renomination easily, courtesy of Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado.

A statement from the House members, featured in the New York Times, expressed, “In a time when the Trump administration and MAGA Republicans are stirring chaos and division in Washington, Governor Hochul is uniting our party and leading efforts to safeguard New Yorkers and foster real progress. That’s why we support her reelection campaign and are committed to collaborating with her to reclaim the House in 2026.”

Prominent supporters of Hochul include House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Squad member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Tom Suozzi, the Long Island congressman who had previously challenged the governor in a primary four years ago.

Mamdani, 34, formally endorsed the governor in an op-ed in The Nation, acknowledging their solid governing partnership while also noting, “we do not see eye to eye on everything.”

He also highlighted, “As we faced challenges from Washington, she safeguarded our social safety net and ensured funding for critical infrastructure projects.”

Reflecting on their collaboration, he stated, “We are forging a new era in Albany’s relationship with City Hall, moving past years of trivial issues toward productivity.”

If voters renominate her in the primary on June 23, Hochul, 67, is expected to complete her second term in November, likely defeating Republican contenders such as Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, who is backed by Trump.

For his part, Mr. Delgado, 49, has a chance to secure a position on the primary ballot by gaining support from 25% of convention delegates or, alternatively, by submitting a petition signed by 15,000 registered Democrats by April 6.
