Investigation into Tim Mynett’s Company Announced

On Friday, House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) revealed that his committee is looking into a business connected to Ilhan Omar’s (D-Minn.) husband. The investigation stems from a significant and rapid increase in the company’s value, which has raised questions about its potential links to a broader fraud scheme in Minnesota.

In a letter shared on Friday morning, Comer indicated that the committee intends to examine the business dealings of Tim Mynett, who has been married to Omar since March 2020.

“What we want to know is who is funding this and who is buying access,” Comer expressed.

He mentioned two companies owned by Mynett, eStCru LLC and Rose Lake Capital LLC. The latter saw its value soar from about $51,000 in 2023 to roughly $30 million in 2024.

Comer raised concerns in his letter, stating, “Given that these companies do not disclose their investors or the source of their funds, this sudden jump in value raises concerns that unknown individuals may be investing to gain influence over your wife.” He referenced financial disclosures from Congress.

The oversight committee has requested Mynett provide documents related to the companies’ recent audits, communications with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and details about travel to places like the United Arab Emirates, Somalia, and Kenya.

While Comer did not go into specifics about how the investigation is unfolding, he hinted at lawmakers’ suspicions regarding possible connections to the Minnesota fraud case, calling attention to the ongoing examination of widespread fraud within the state’s social welfare programs.

There has been heightened scrutiny of Mynett and Omar recently, particularly after reports revealed significant increases in their assets since Omar’s election in 2019.

This scrutiny coincides with investigations into the potential loss of up to $9 billion in state funds due to fraudulent activities, where scammers allegedly exploited government programs, such as daycares, by overstating services for personal gain.

Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), a leading Republican in the House, expressed confidence that the committee’s efforts would soon yield clarity for the public.

He stated, “As President Trump mentioned recently, time will tell. I believe that Congressman Kamel’s investigation into Ilhan Omar’s unexpected wealth will uncover important truths.” He noted that these revelations might have significant implications for Omar.

The committee expects to receive the requested information by February 19.

Omar’s office has not yet responded to requests for comments.
