Gus Kenworthy’s Bold Message Before the Olympics
British-American Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy, set to represent Great Britain at the upcoming 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics, made waves on social media this past Friday with a striking anti-ICE message.
He shared a photo on Instagram displaying the phrase “f— ICE” appearing as if it were written in snow. In his post, he called on Americans to reach out to their senators, urging them to oppose the funding negotiations for the Department of Homeland Security.
“Innocent people have been killed, enough is enough,” Kenworthy expressed in his caption. He emphasized that it’s crucial to not let ICE operate freely in communities. He suggested the need for real accountability, which includes dismantling ICE and Customs and Border Protection, removing blank check funding for violent actions, and imposing strict limits on warrantless arrests, particularly in sensitive locations like schools and hospitals.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) responded by confirming that Kenworthy would not face any penalties for expressing his political opinions.
According to the IOC, “During the Olympic Games, all participants have the opportunity to express their opinions in accordance with the Athlete Expression Guidelines. The IOC does not regulate individual social media posts,” they stated.
This conversation comes amidst public outrage concerning ICE’s operations in Minnesota, which recently saw the tragic murder of Renee Good and Alex Preti.
Additionally, ICE’s purported protective role for U.S. officials has drawn ire from Italian authorities, leading to protests throughout the country.
Interestingly, Kenworthy, although born in England, moved to Colorado during his childhood. He represented the U.S. in the 2014 Sochi Olympics but decided to switch his allegiance to Great Britain in 2019.
