Disturbing footage was shared on Friday that captured the alarming moment a man with a knife attacked a 10-year-old neighbor and his elderly grandfather in Los Angeles.
The unsettling video, accessed by KTLA, features two children walking down a driveway in Sunland, heading to see their grandfather. Suddenly, their mentally unstable neighbor, suspected of being a psychopath, launched into a violent episode, causing chaos among the family and nearby residents.
The children can be seen in a panic, screaming and running away from the frenzied attacker, who was wildly swinging his knife as he weaved between parked cars.
In another harrowing scene, the grandfather, who had been stabbed in the neck, struggles to rise from the ground, blood staining his shirt, while the assailant lunges towards him and then steals the victim’s black Volvo to escape.
According to the police report, around 7:40 a.m., a man approached a grandfather in his 70s and his three grandchildren as they were on their way to school and attempted to stab them.
“The grandfather had just put his granddaughter in the car for school when the attacker came running and stabbed her directly in the arm,” a terrified neighbor, Mike Agajanyan, recounted to KTLA.
“An older man then charged at the attacker and got stabbed in the neck and arm.”
Two of the children managed to escape from the vehicle, but the grandfather and the 10-year-old both sustained injuries, as reported by FOX11. The young girl had cuts on her arm.
Police reported that both victims were quickly taken to a local hospital and are now in stable condition.
Meanwhile, the suspect, already known to the police, fled the scene in a car, driving several miles before abandoning the vehicle after the brutal assault.
Hours later, at around 2 p.m., he was apprehended and taken into custody.
Neighbors expressed their disgust, noting that the suspect was a troubled man in his 30s who lived with his parents and had been causing issues in the neighborhood for years.
“It’s frightening, but honestly, it’s not surprising; we’ve had issues with him for years,” one neighbor admitted.
“He has been arrested multiple times, and his family has continually called the police. He always seems to be released.”
The suspect’s family expressed concern for him, mentioning attempts at mental health treatment, although they did not provide further details. The authorities have not yet disclosed the suspect’s identity or the specific charges against him.
