China Taking Advantage of Birthright Citizenship Laws Globally

China’s Birthright Citizenship Strategy

Peter Schweitzer, a best-selling investigative journalist and senior contributor at Breitbart News, discussed how China is leveraging global birthright citizenship policies to strengthen its control. This topic is explored in his latest book, The Invisible Coup: How American Elites and Foreign Powers Exploit Immigration as a Weapon.

Schweitzer revealed that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) actively promotes the idea that Chinese citizens can gain American citizenship through the U.S. birthright citizenship policy. This policy allows children born in the U.S. to foreign nationals to obtain citizenship even if their parents have no connections to the country.

“The Chinese government is encouraging this through media, with articles appearing in the Communist Party’s main publication, People’s Daily. It essentially tells people that they have a constitutional right to pursue this,” Schweitzer explained.

He further questioned the motives behind the CCP’s encouragement for its elites to attain dual citizenship in America, suggesting they believe it grants them significant advantages.

Specifically, he noted that around 1 million American-born children might be growing up in China simply to ensure they have birthright citizenship. “That could translate into substantial voting power. Take the 2016 election, for instance—just over 72,000 votes were pivotal. One million votes could sway a close presidential election dramatically,” Schweitzer pointed out.

Additionally, in the Northern Mariana Islands, particularly Saipan, birthright citizenship policies make it easier for Chinese nationals to have children, surpassing the number of indigenous births. “Many births on Saipan are from Chinese nationals arriving to take advantage of this policy. It isn’t limited to states like California or Florida, but includes U.S. territories as well,” he stated.

He emphasized the urgency of reevaluating birthright citizenship in the context of these dynamics. “For instance, the first child born in the U.S. in 2025 might be one of these birth tourist babies from China. We really need to tackle this issue,” he urged.

Schweitzer’s book, The Invisible Coup, debuted at the top of the New York Times Bestseller list and is available for purchase.
