Detective investigates 41-minute gap in Nancy Guthrie's disappearance

A former homicide detective has raised concerns about the amount of time a suspect allegedly spent inside the home of Nancy Guthrie, a missing woman from Arizona. Investigators are piecing together a timeline that suggests a gap of roughly 41 minutes—between when the home’s doorbell camera lost connection and when Guthrie’s pacemaker app ceased communication with her phone.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Office indicated that the doorbell camera went offline at 1:47 a.m., motion was detected around 2:12 a.m., and the pacemaker was no longer communicating by 2:28 a.m. Interestingly, the surveillance system only picked up motion without recording any footage, which means it’s possible that an animal might have triggered it.

Ted Williams, who has a background as a homicide detective in Washington, D.C., expressed his doubts: he noted that if someone were committing a burglary, they would likely aim to get in and out quickly. The fact that the individuals stayed for 41 minutes raised a red flag for him.

“If you’re a con artist,” he said on a recent show, “you want to go fast.” The longer presence could suggest familiarity with the home and its security features. Williams emphasized, “This leads me to believe that they were well aware of the cameras.” He even suggested that those involved may have felt secure knowing law enforcement wouldn’t be immediately alerted.

Nancy Guthrie, aged 84 and the mother of NBC’s Today show host Savannah Guthrie, has been missing since January 31. While officials have not named any suspects nor clarified a motive, they have confirmed that a crime indeed occurred.

The FBI, alongside the Pima County Sheriff’s Office, is looking into various communications regarding Guthrie’s disappearance. Reports have surfaced about multiple ransom demands, including one that was sent to local news outlets earlier this week. In response, the Guthrie family urged anyone with information to come forward, acknowledging the situation and expressing their readiness to speak up.
