Bert Kreischer’s Stand-Up Moment with Rob Lowe
Bert Kreischer, known for his stand-up comedy, has a unique quirk during performances—he often takes off his shirt. Well, it turns out this wasn’t quite known by Rob Lowe in the Netflix show “Free Bert.”
Kreischer shared his excitement about the show’s opening scene, where he was performing at Lowe’s birthday party. Apparently, when Kreischer disrobed—an expected part of his act—Lowe was so amused that he requested it be done repeatedly, which, as you might imagine, caught Kreischer off guard.
Kreischer recounted that this scene is rooted in a real-life experience. He explained, “This is based on a true story that happened to me in Vail, Colorado.” At that time, he was booked to do a gig for hedge fund folks, raking in an impressive $25,000, a sum that, back then, felt monumental.
During the event, he was met with a specific request: “One of the guys at the table said, ‘Hey, we just want to hear about machines, so put your shirt on, take it off, and talk about machines,'” he chuckled. Perhaps not the response he expected when he signed on to entertain a corporate crowd.
He humorously noted this gig was a breeze compared to others. Afterward, he shared the story with his wife, who found some irony in it, remarking he looked like a “whore” for entertaining hedge funders in such a manner. Kreischer joked back, “Easy, easy,” as they both laughed at the absurdity.
When discussing the show, Kreischer told how he pitched the idea to Lowe, and they ended up filming in Santa Barbara. It was indeed a fun experience for him, saying, “I’m very happy with that scene.” The comedic dynamic between him and Lowe seems to be a highlight.
In “Free Bert,” there’s humor mixed with Kreischer’s frustrations—like missing family moments for what he calls “being Rob Lowe’s stripper.” It’s a layered portrayal of his life; he reflects on fame, too, recalling his time in college as a party enthusiast recognized by Rolling Stone.
Interestingly, Kreischer mentioned facing a potential invitation from Oprah for a show. He laughed about the idea of having his parents there and the subsequent anxiety it stirred. “This isn’t going to end well for me,” he thought, which led him to decline the invitation.
Aside from the comedic anecdotes, he shared an almost daring moment from a trip to Zanzibar, where he hesitated to jump off a cliff into shallow water, highlighting the unpredictable nature of adventure and self-doubt.
