Why are so many people suddenly claiming Epstein is still alive?

Last month, the Justice Department released a staggering amount of information—over 3 million pages, 2,000 videos, and 180,000 images—from Jeffrey Epstein’s files. This wealth of material sheds new light on the notorious child sex offender, revealing disturbing details about his life, business dealings, and extensive network of affluent associates.

The files are filled with bizarre and often grim correspondence, which has already triggered at least one renewed criminal investigation in the UK, reigniting discussions surrounding various theories about Epstein.

Many detectives examining the documents have noted references to supposed cannibalism and extraordinary accusations that Epstein and his associates might have participated in “ritual sacrifices.” However, the detectives seem to be more intrigued by what the files reveal about the mysterious deaths of some sex offenders at New York City’s Metropolitan Correctional Center.

With inconsistencies noted in the official account, skeptics have long speculated that Epstein did not take his own life in August 2019 but was instead murdered or that his death was somehow covered up, given the dubious records and claims circulating on social media.

The new details, including autopsy images and a viral photo of someone resembling Epstein, have breathed new life into these theories, alongside some concerning activity on a gaming account affiliated with a sex offender.

Epstein in Tel Aviv

A video surfacing earlier this month apparently shows a bearded Epstein joyfully living in Israel. However, further scrutiny reveals that the image was spread largely by a Palestinian who identifies as an “unapologetic Muslim Palestinian.” A Middle Eastern news account showed signs of having been manipulated via AI tools.

For instance, the text on a road sign in the image appears to be nonsensically written, not to mention incorrect Hebrew and Arabic lettering, which only circles back to a road that seems nonexistent.

The viral image of Epstein in Tel Aviv looks like a cropped version of another, which recently appeared in a subreddit focused on AI-generated images. This subreddit has become known for raising questions about the origin and authenticity of images posted online.

Confusion Around Death Notifications

Among the latest documents released, including a description from the FBI’s New York Field Office Report, images depict paramedics appearing to attempt to resuscitate Epstein, while other images lack any sign of his body. An arm tattoo, alongside other details showing a fracture in his hyoid bone and damage to his thyroid cartilage, argues that Epstein was discovered unresponsive and was declared dead following an apparent suicide on August 10, 2019.

However, other newly filed documents allege that Epstein passed away the day before.

A document states, “Earlier this morning, the Manhattan Correctional Center confirmed that Jeffrey Epstein, who has been charged with sex trafficking minors, has been found unresponsive in his cell and pronounced dead shortly thereafter,” as per then-Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Jeffrey Berman, on August 9, 2019.

Berman also expressed that the developing situation is unsettling and could complicate justice for Epstein’s many victims.

Interestingly, the official Department of Justice website shows the updated release date as August 10, 2019.

There’s some speculation that this conflicting date could simply be a typo in the report, hinting at {a wider online discussion surrounding Epstein’s genuine or allegedly faked death.

Questionable Gaming Activity

Investigators diving into the new trove of Epstein’s files stumbled upon references to his YouTube username, “littlestjeff1.” They also found evidence suggesting Epstein might have remained active in the gaming world, specifically following his ban from Xbox Live. One email from May 7, 2019, mentions a charge for virtual currency within Fortnite.

In a viral tweet, user @Truthpole remarked on how some have allegedly spotted an active user under that account. Various posts shared stats related to the “littlestjeff1” Fortnite profile, indicating its history and activity, even flagging past actions tied to Israel.

While rumors spread about Epstein potentially gaming after his alleged death, these weren’t just limited to one platform but also appeared on other social media like Instagram.

This narrative gained additional traction when the statistics linked to “littlestjeff1” surfaced. The archived page, highlighted in Snopes’ discussions, added more mystery to the situation.

Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, responded to the buzz on February 6, attempting to quiet the speculation by stating that “some people have been amusing themselves by changing the username on their Fortnite account, but it’s recent and is not linked to any email in our archives.”

Moreover, the official Fortnite account added more clarity by stating that the name change was merely a strategy by players. They clarified, “Recently, an existing player altered their username to ‘littlestjeff1’ after it came to public attention; past usernames won’t be visible on our Fortnite tracker.”

Still, many skeptics believe this explanation lacks credibility, especially since Epstein’s emails mention acquiring Fortnite’s digital currency, although both sender and recipient addresses were redacted.

Alongside this questionable gaming behavior, the discourse has turned to several intriguing elements within the released files. An FBI memorandum claimed to have recorded an “orange flash” making its way into the isolated prison tier where Epstein was held the night before his body was found.

A 2023 report from the Justice Department’s Office of Inspector General suggested that these “orange shapes” were merely correctional officers moving linens and clothing for inmates.

Video forensics experts, however, remained skeptical regarding this interpretation, suggesting it might actually resemble a person in an orange prison jumpsuit ascending the stairs.
