“The View” co-host Joy Behar and producer Brian Teta discussed the audience’s mixed reactions to former host Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s return to the show, which now features Alyssa Farrah Griffin on maternity leave. Teta noted on the “Behind the Table” podcast that while fans often express strong opinions about changes in hosting, the reaction to Hasselbeck surprised him. He acknowledged her controversial views but emphasized the positive rapport she has with Behar, given their ten years of collaboration.
The lineup for guest hosts includes Hasselbeck, Savannah Chrisley, Abby Huntsman, Amanda Carpenter, Sheryl Underwood, and Whitney Cummings. Notably, Hasselbeck and Huntsman are alumni of the show, with Hasselbeck present from 2003 to 2013 and Huntsman from 2018 to 2020.
Behar commented on the backlash against Hasselbeck, questioning whether it would extend to other past hosts like Rosie O’Donnell or Michelle Collins. Teta felt viewers might have similar reactions to them, too. Behar spoke to Hasselbeck’s character, while also pointing out the curious shift in her political views since marrying, attributing it perhaps to her husband.
She aimed to reassure upcoming conservative guest hosts about differing opinions on the show, underlining that disagreements were natural and encouraging them to express their feelings without anger. Behar responded, “That’s fine,” when Teta mentioned that the guest host might not always agree with her.
Chrisley, the first guest host slated for next week, recently shared on social media about the challenges her family faced, stating that she had not forgotten the negative comments directed at them. She expressed her belief in engaging with differing perspectives while standing firm in her values.
Griffin’s presence since 2022 has been credited with reducing on-air conflicts, a notable change from previous conservative hosts like Hasselbeck. Alongside her and Ana Navarro, who is outspokenly anti-Trump, the show’s atmosphere has shifted, reflecting a more unified approach among the hosts despite their political differences.
Interestingly, from January to July 2025, the show exclusively invited liberal guests. Discussions surrounding Trump and his former allies have arose, particularly focusing on tensions around issues like the Epstein files, showcasing the evolving nature of the show’s dialogue.
