Engagement at the Olympics: Breezy Johnson and Connor Watkins
The 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics gathered athletes worldwide, all hoping to claim medals in various events. Yet, amid the fierce competition, there are moments that stick in our minds for different reasons.
American skier Breezy Johnson received a delightful surprise recently when her boyfriend, Connor Watkins, proposed to her in Cortina d’Ampezzo. This proposal came shortly after Johnson competed in the women’s alpine ski super-G.
Watkins popped the question right by the finish line, with fellow members of the U.S. Ski Team around them. Johnson said yes immediately, and it was clear that this was a significant moment for both of them.
The American Ski Federation expressed their joyful congratulations to the couple, sharing their warm wishes on social media.
Johnson, now 30, proudly displayed an engagement ring featuring a blue sapphire set in white gold, surrounded by smaller white sapphires—a beautiful choice, really.
Watkins later remarked, in conversation with NBC News, that he had been planning this moment for over a year. It’s interesting—after telling him that she had always dreamed of an Olympic proposal, Johnson admitted she may have sensed it was coming.
This Olympics has been quite the journey for Johnson. Not only did she secure her first Olympic gold medal in women’s alpine skiing downhill earlier, but she also nearly topped the podium in the women’s combined event.
Even though Johnson didn’t complete the super-G event, the engagement ring and the moment shared with Watkins will likely be cherished memories for a lifetime.
