LOS ANGELES — Adu Tierro’s Comeback Performance
Adu Tierro made a strong statement about his readiness to play after being out for six weeks. He showcased his impressive athletic abilities during two-way sequences, similar to what many Lakers players did near the end of their game against the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday.
During one moment, Spurs’ Bismack Biyombo attempted to score after grabbing an offensive rebound. However, Tierro was right in front of him and, quite impressively, also higher off the ground. Using his remarkable six-foot wingspan, Tierro blocked Biyombo’s shot.
He wasn’t done there. Following his block, Bronny James picked up the loose ball and sprinted downcourt, signaling for a pass. Tierro expressed that there seems to be a solid connection between him and James, noting how he just needs to raise his finger and James understands what to do.
James executed a perfect underhand alley-oop, and as Tierro was about to be fouled on an and-one, he used both hands to power the ball into the net. “I feel like I’m in a good place,” Tierro stated, adding, “It’s nice to finish a game without having a donut, so that felt good.”
This week, Tierro practiced with the Lakers’ G League affiliate and participated in what he described as “standby” games, showing off the same athletic moves he demonstrated that night. “We’ve done this many times,” he commented on his performance during that game.
Despite the cheers from Crypto.com Arena, Tierro’s performance didn’t significantly influence the game’s outcome against the Spurs. After he made a free throw, the Lakers were still down by 25 points with eight minutes remaining.
There are glimmers of hope, though. This was Tierro’s first game since December 30 due to an MCL sprain in his right knee, and it was clear that he wasn’t holding back on his trademark explosive moves.
Previously, Tierro had missed training camp, preseason, and the initial 13 games of the regular season because of swelling in his left knee, which he injured in college and had surgery on. He remarked, “If I were still concerned about it, I wouldn’t be playing right now. I’m totally confident in my abilities, and I trust that my body will respond as it should.”
Luka Doncic’s Absence
In another update, star guard Luka Doncic was absent for the Dallas Mavericks’ game on Thursday. This marked the fourth consecutive game he missed due to a left hamstring strain sustained during the second quarter against the Philadelphia 76ers on February 5.
As of Thursday, it was still uncertain whether Doncic would participate in the upcoming All-Star Game.
At just 26, Doncic has secured All-Star honors six times in his eight-year career and was the top vote-getter this year for the first time.
