ICE Requests That Georgia Law Enforcement Hold Detained Aliens Charged with Child Sex Crimes
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is urging Georgia law enforcement to keep illegal immigrants charged with child sex crimes in custody, according to a recent Department of Homeland Security press release obtained by Blaze News.
Juan Carlos Salvador Diaz, 29, is accused of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl on two separate occasions—August 1, 2025, and December 1, 2023—at a Marietta apartment complex.
“We need cooperation from state and local governments to ensure these dangerous individuals are returned to us, allowing for their removal from the country before they target more Americans,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.
Local authorities arrested Diaz on January 30, and he currently faces two counts of aggravated sexual assault. Presently, he is being held without bail.
DHS noted that the Honduran national entered the United States illegally in 2019. Following his arrest, ICE filed an arrest warrant with the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office.
ICE is requesting that the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office notify them before releasing Diaz.
“This monster assaulted a ten-year-old girl. We’re committed to working with Georgia authorities to ensure that this individual does not get released to harm more innocent children,” McLaughlin added.
Interestingly, the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office previously ended its participation in the ICE 287(g) program, which allowed local law enforcement to identify and process immigration offenders. However, this changed when Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed legislation in 2024 requiring local authorities to comply with immigration-related mandates.
The Cobb County Sheriff’s Office has not responded to a request for comment regarding this situation.
