A police officer from California is making waves with a social media post that involved handcuffing his ex-girlfriend on Valentine’s Day, a move that was apparently intentional. The Santa Maria Police Department shared a video that included a playful poem: “Roses are red, violets are blue. There’s an ex-lover with a warrant, we’ll come get him.”
Officer Juan Robles, a motorcycle cop with a decade of service, is featured in the video. He humorously presents a large red box filled with chocolates, only to reveal a pair of handcuffs inside when he opens the lid.
Lt. Felix Diaz, who has been with the department for 18 years, commented on the community’s positive response, which he anticipated. He described the initiative as a humorous take on Valentine’s Day while also reminding the public about the importance of law enforcement. “We also have people with warrants, and we are here to apprehend them,” he noted. Diaz emphasized that the project was a way for the community to see the more lighthearted side of police work.
This year marked the first time Diaz participated in such a Valentine’s-themed post, and he was clearly pleased with the reception. Officer Robles’ wife, Danielle, chimed in, expressing her excitement about her husband’s newfound attention and acknowledging his tendency to enjoy the spotlight.
The department drew inspiration from the Visalia Police Department, which had a similar concept the previous year. The social media post generated significant buzz, with comments highlighting both the creativity and the attractive officer. One user remarked, “Talk about a great ad! You caught my attention with the good-looking police officer. And I really like the service you offer. Sold out!!!” Another person jokingly expressed surprise at the unexpected “presents” from the policeman.
Lt. Diaz gave credit to his social media team for spotting the Visalia video and suggesting they replicate the idea, which clearly paid off in terms of community engagement.
