HGTV’s “Rehab Addict” Faces Censorship Following Controversial Footage
A new episode of HGTV’s popular show “Rehab Addict” was set to air this week, following a brief pause in its schedule. However, the show’s return was overshadowed by the emergence of old footage that surfaced unexpectedly. This video, reported by RadarOnline, allegedly shows host Nicole Curtis unintentionally using inappropriate language during renovations.
In response, HGTV, part of Warner Bros. Discovery, quickly removed all episodes of the series and announced the cancellation of any upcoming episodes.
In a statement to Variety, HGTV acknowledged their recent discovery of racist remarks made during filming, stating, “This language is not only harmful and disappointing to our viewers, partners, and employees, but also inconsistent with HGTV’s values.” They reiterated their decision to pull the series from their platforms.
The viral footage depicts Curtis expressing frustration during a restoration project, momentarily muttering, “Oh, farts.” It’s evident she recognized her mistake almost immediately, turning to the crew with a concerned expression and asking, “What did I just say?”
Further in the video, Curtis is seen off-camera seemingly instructing someone to “kill that thing,” a comment that sparked some speculation about the circumstances behind it.
A source from RadarOnline claimed the video was old and criticized Curtis, suggesting she should treat others with respect and stop profiting at their expense: “[Nicole] You deserve everything you get. Please stop making money behind our backs. …You’re a trash person.”
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Curtis expressed deep remorse, stating, “I feel as much remorse and regret as I did four years ago, just one second after those words were uttered.”
While some were quick to condemn Curtis over this revelation, others came to her defense, reflecting the polarized opinions surrounding the incident.
This isn’t the first time a reality TV star has faced backlash for racially insensitive comments. For instance, Hulk Hogan was let go from WWE in 2015 for making racist remarks captured in a private recording, while chef Paula Deen faced severe repercussions following similar allegations in her past.
