Is your baby formula safe? Florida discovers high levels of metals in 16 out of 24 leading brands

Heavy Metals Found in Infant Formula

Parents often assume that the baby formula on store shelves is safe. However, a survey shows that many leading brands have tested positive for heavy metals, according to the Healthy Florida First initiative.

This initiative, spearheaded by Governor Ron DeSantis, First Lady Casey DeSantis, and Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo, is a program intended to promote better health in Florida through testing and revealing contaminants in everyday foods.

On a recent episode of “Conservative Review with Daniel Horowitz,” Casey DeSantis discussed the findings of the Florida Health Initiative, which examined 24 best-selling infant formulas. They also discussed what parents can do to best ensure their children’s nutrition.

A Consumer Reports investigation published in March 2025 indicated that some of the 41 tested infant formulas contained potentially harmful levels of heavy metals like arsenic and lead. Coinciding with this, the HHS and FDA announced enhanced testing for these substances and a review of nutrition standards for infant formula.

Despite these attempts to improve safety, DeSantis remarked that a recent state study showed “no significant changes.” She questioned why there has been little communication from some formula manufacturers following the findings, labeling the toxicity of metals found in infant formula as “unconscionable and unacceptable.”

The Florida Department of Health’s testing revealed that 16 out of the 24 formulas contained heavy metals exceeding current safety limits. “Could you give us an overview of that shocking discovery?” Horowitz prompted.

DeSantis responded, “Sixteen of the 24 had elevated levels of mercury, and two contained lead. These are concerning heavy metals. They don’t just leave the body easily.” She also added, “It increases exponentially.”

She encouraged parents and caregivers to visit expose food toxins.com to find out which formula brands are safer. “It’s important to not dismiss this as a mere issue of manufacturing processes; some companies indeed do it better. As consumers, we ought to advocate for change for the sake of our families,” she said.
