Hiatus for Gay Days Event at Disney World in 2026
The well-known Pride Month event “Gay Days” in Disney World will be temporarily paused in 2026. Organizers attribute this decision to a loss of sponsorship and various logistical challenges.
“After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to suspend the Orlando Gay Days event scheduled for June 2026,” the event planners shared recently.
They went on to explain that changes to hotel agreements, alongside the loss of critical sponsorship support and wider difficulties facing LGBTQIA+ events across the nation, have made it unfeasible to provide the experience the community deserves.
In a somewhat optimistic tone, organizers reassured that “this is a hiatus, not an end,” expressing hope for a future return to the park.
“For more than 30 years, GayDays has been created by and for the community,” they noted. “Our focus now is to rethink the future and return as a stronger, more sustainable event.”
They promised to share updates in the coming months as they work toward a new chapter. “Thank you for your support, patience, and for being part of the GayDays family,” they concluded.
The 2026 gathering was meant to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Orlando event—a multi-day fan-organized celebration typically held in June. While not officially endorsed by Walt Disney World, this meetup generally attracts thousands and includes organized trips to the park and other nearby attractions.
Since its inception in the ’90s, Gay Days has grown into a week-long series of activities, including takeovers of resort hotels, nightlife events, pool parties, and convention-style gatherings.
However, the event has also faced backlash and public scrutiny over the years. Some families and park visitors have raised concerns about the behaviors tied to the gathering, stating they may not align with the family-friendly environment that Disney promotes.
Past complaints have included worries over public displays of affection, as well as issues regarding inappropriate clothing in the parks and hotels. Attendees question whether some of the activities surrounding the event are suitable, especially given that Disney’s primary audience is families.
While Gay Days in Orlando will be paused, similar events in other locations, like Gay Days Anaheim at Disneyland Resort later this year, are still set to proceed.
