YouTuber Nick Shirley stumbled upon a family of Colombian immigrants living in harsh conditions on Skid Row in Los Angeles. He described their situation as “tragic,” highlighting the surrounding environment filled with “drugs and chaos.”
While interviewing the family from a makeshift tent, Shirley learned they had been in the U.S. for two years after crossing the border during President Biden’s tenure. The mother expressed her frustration, stating, “No. I never thought my life would be different,” when asked if this was the life they sought.
The father shared their hopes of a better life, saying, “We came here to change our lives, and now we live like dogs. We’re not animals, we’re humans. But, you know, we have kids here.” He then revealed the two young children, barefoot and living in filthy surroundings.
Shirley also questioned one of the children, Dylan, about liking life in the U.S. The boy’s answer was a clear no. When the father was asked about the quality of life, he quickly noted that “Colombia is 1000 times better.”
It’s unclear why these families choose to stay in the U.S., enduring such difficult circumstances, rather than returning to their homeland.
